Problems
There is many good things about Osaka, and one of it's best attributes is it's low crime rate, but it's biggest and worst problem is Kamagasaki, the biggest slum in Japan that is situated on the outskirts of the city of Osaka. Kamagasaki is poverty stricken and is an embarrassment to Osaka and Japan and something needs to be done about it. Residents are treated with abuse from police, women and children are rarely seen and workers are paid almost nothing (if they're lucky enough to get a job) and end up spending it on booze, cigarettes and accommodation as well as food.
Solutions
The Osaka politicians need to acknowledge this problem that they try and keep off the radar with ideas or initiatives that could reduce the poverty in Kamagasaki or even end it. Although acknowledging the problem would be a start the city also needs to put some plans into action such as homeless shelters, support and food areas. At the moment a soup kitchen is the best on offer to the homeless in Kamagasaki and they need more to get back on their feet. Un-employment benefits should also be handed out or even better, more jobs with better pay should be offered to the homeless, simple ideas and initiatives like these will be able to change Kamagasaki and help remove poverty from the streets.
